What is it? What CAN’T Bakuchiol do? Pronounced buh-koo-chee-all, this plant-based ingredient has been given the nickname, “Nature’s Retinol.” Just like retinol, Bakuchiol is used for brightening and evening skin tones, boosting collagen production, minimizing pores, correcting dark spots and acne scars, diminishing signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, overall photodamage, and treats active acne. In short, it offers all the same plus points as retinol, but without the horrible side effects (even for the most sensitive skin!) Bakuchiol contains soothing properties which help to comfort skin and minimize issues associated with sensitivity and reactivity. It even contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties. We make our serum with a 10% strength Bakuchiol (companies such as Herbivore only use 1%!). It is non-greasy, won’t clog your pores, and absorbs into skin extremely fast.
Who is it for? Great for all skin types and those with rosacea, scarring, and sensitive skin. Not recommended for use on children or infants.

Ingredient Spotlight: So you want to know more about Bakuchiol and whether it’s right for you? Look no further! Here is a list of our favorite “bakuchi-benefits” for you to love just as much as we do:
Evens Skin Tone: Bakuchiol deeply penetrates the skin to help lessen the appearance of dark spots and areas of hyperpigmentation. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by stimulating collagen production, promoting a firmer-looking complexion.
Combats Skin Dryness: While Retinol tends to dry out skin or cause irritation, Bakuchiol is gentler and won’t cause irritation to your skin. It is ideal for those who suffer from dry, sensitive skin who can’t tolerate Retinol because it works as an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant.
Speeds Up Cell Regeneration: Bakuchiol dramatically stimulates your skill cell turnover rate, sending signals to your cells that it’s time to ramp up collagen production and cell turnover. By promoting cell turnover and healthy cell regeneration, it helps soothe and heal your skin from the inside out. Pretty neat, huh?
Great for All Skin Types: By promoting cell turnover and healthy cell regeneration, Bakuchiol helps soothe and heal your skin from the inside out. Being gentle on the skin, mostly anyone can use it. Plus it’s non photo-sensitizing, so it can be safely used in the morning. It can even be used twice a day! If you like the benefits from once a day, you can safely double up.
Aids Pigmentation Balancing: Bakuchiol acts at two distinct points in the pigmentation pathway by decreasing the activation of melanocytes (the cells that produce skin pigment) as well as decreasing tyrosinase activity (the rate-limiting step in the production of melanin). That's some powerful stuff!
Powerful Anti-Aging Benefits: Finally, it reduces fine lines and wrinkles (love that). This happens through an effect on the same genes influenced by Retinol, reducing the breakdown of collagen and increasing the manufacturing of skin-scaffolding proteins.
